Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION:
Providing leadership in all academic functions of CSS including teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels; basic and applied research through the Agricultural Experiment Station; Extension Service; international activities; extended education and service programs. Represent the Department, College and University in a range of settings.

As guiding principles:

  1. Manage and obtain resources to allow faculty and staff to enhance their programs and continue professional development.
  2. Manage and obtain resources to provide excellence in student training and experiences.
  3. Provide an environment to maximize faculty and staff participation in planning and development of department, college, and university programs.
Qualifications sought Required qualifications include:

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in field relevant to CSS
  • A distinguished record in teaching, scholarship and service commensurate with the expectations of the rank of a professor with tenure
  • Clear understanding and commitment to the mission of land grant institutions
  • A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity
  • Leadership and success in securing internal and external programmatic support for instruction, research, service or outreach
  • Proven experience and commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of stakeholders, such as university administrators, academic unit leaders, faculty, government and non-government organizations, producers, growers, industry, volunteers, and the public
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a current, valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record while serving in the position

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Demonstrated successful leadership in the strategic planning and management of a large and complex organization or research program
  • Demonstrated competence in and dedication to recruitment, retention and success of faculty and staff from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience in liaison roles with local communities; familiarity with relevant State and Federal research agencies and programs
  • Proven success at obtaining extramural grants and non-governmental funding and experience in expanding alliances with the private sector
  • Experience with development and fundraising
  • Commitment to high quality and innovative teaching, research, outreach and extended education
