Type of position Full-time, 11-month, end-date position available immediately. The position is funded for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance evaluation, available funding sources, and the candidate’s ability to secure additional funding.

Description of duties The successful candidate will be expected to develop, conduct, and evaluate a statewide Extension IPM educational program for nursery growers and garden center owners.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Develop, conduct, and evaluate a statewide Extension program using the latest research-based information related to all facets of pest management and overall crop health in nursery and other ornamental crops.
  • Work collaboratively with teams of Extension educators, specialists and others to plan, implement and evaluate programs statewide.
  • Secure extramural funding and develop a diverse portfolio of educational materials for Extension clients and scholarly materials for professional peers.
  • Perform other appropriate duties as needed or assigned to fulfill the Extension mission.
Qualifications sought Required Qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s degree in entomology, plant pathology, weed science, integrated pest management, horticulture, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in agricultural systems, preferably ornamental crop production, and conducting integrated pest management programs.
  • Ability to respond to pest control inquiries from the ornamental horticulture industry regarding arthropod pests, plant pathogens, and weeds.
  • Experience in conducting applied research and demonstration projects.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent oral, written, and technology-based communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate with and interact effectively with stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability in writing grant proposals.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting Extension-based field work and programming.
  • Experience in impact evaluation of IPM Extension programs, including the quantification of pesticide use.
  • Knowledge of biological controls.
  • Knowledge of nutritional diagnostics and recommendations for nursery crops.
  • Familiarity with website content management software.
