Description of duties JOB DESCRIPTION:
JOB SUMMARY: Incumbent is responsible for serving as a crew leader to treat noxious weeds on the Summit Lake Paiute Reservation.


  1. Responsible for field supervision of one of two noxious weed crews.
  2. Responsible for the safe and proper application of herbicides to treat noxious weeds.
  3. Responsible for the maintenance of Tribal equipment, property and facilities.
  4. Responsible for the operation, repair, maintenance, and record keeping of GSA and Tribal vehicles.
  5. Incumbent operates, repairs, and maintains various types of equipment and tools, including backpack sprayers and ATV mounted spray tanks, water tanks, trailers, hand tools, pumps, personal protective equipment, and power tools.
  6. Assists with the collection and recording of data, including daily herbicide application reports.
  7. Implement a work plan and schedule regarding noxious weed treatment, maintenance needs and priorities.
  8. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications sought MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Must be in good physical condition and able to carry a backpack weighing 35 pounds for an eight hour shift, and be able to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
  2. Must have valid driver’s license and be insurable by the Tribe’s insurance carrier.
  3. Incumbent must be certified – or be able to obtain certification by employment start date – by the Nevada Department of Agriculture as a Nonprimary Principal Commercial Applicator to apply or supervise the application of restricted use pesticides in the category of right of way and aquatic pest control.
  4. Experience operating ATV’s and completion of ATV Safety Orientation.
  5. Experience using Garmin and Trimble GPS Technology.
  6. Incumbent must have a minimum of one field season serving as an herbicide applicator.
  7. Incumbent must be able to live and work as a team leader and member in an extremely remote area of Northern Nevada.
  8. Incumbent must be able to work in inclement weather and enjoy primitive living conditions for extended periods of time.
  9. Must be self-motivated, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  10. Must have mechanical skills and experience operating and maintaining hand and power tools.


  1. Experience leading field crews or similar supervisory experience.
  2. A minimum of one year of experience treating noxious weeds and/or pests.
  3. Experience with data collection, data entry, equipment inventory, and meticulous record keeping.
  4. Flexibility with work schedule.
  5. Experience with GIS technology.
  6. Ability to interpret and follow instructions, make sound decisions, and enforce various rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  7. Experience with plant identification or botany coursework.
  8. Associate of Science Degree.
  9. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid training and current certification.
