We’re looking for a Technical Service Representative to provide technical positioning and support to both internal and external customers in the Fresno/Visalia, CA area. The main geographical area of focus will be Kern, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera and Merced counties. It will also include interacting with BASF Technical Service Representatives, Biologists, Business Representatives and Value Chain Representatives in the entire state of California and Arizona.

As a Technical Service Representative with BASF Corporation, you will assume responsibility and leadership for all technical elements (labels, product use direction, training materials, recommendations, and technical positioning of BASF products) for your assigned territory. You’ll be responsible for supporting BASF Business Representatives, Innovation Specialists, Value Chain Representatives, Strategic Account Managers and a defined list of external customers in your district ensuring that marketing, sales and technical positions are in alignment.

You’ll be accountable for technical support of the BASF product line to the BASF business representatives and customers with the objective of meeting or exceeding established sales goals, while reducing liability costs and maintaining the technical integrity of product positions. Support of the sales organization to achieve income objectives occurs primarily via direct interaction and by influencing key external customers. Regular interaction with Marketing Managers, Business Representatives, Strategic Account Managers, Technical Marketing Managers, and Biology (R & D) is imperative.


  • Development of new potential markets and demonstration programs to support district, regional and national selling objectives. Preparation of technical materials as needed.
  • Agronomic and product training activities targeted at business representatives, customers, university personnel, and other influential customers.
  • Monitoring and positively influencing key centers of influence (COI) such as universities, consultants, and other 3rd parties through relationship building and regular contact. Provide product information, label updates, and technical results to these COI’s. Administer local demonstration and grant programs.
  • Providing customer service call training and assistance to Business Representatives. Train Business Representatives on investigative field techniques and assist with product investigation where necessary.
  • Investigating and providing supportive data to meet sales objectives. Developing field plot protocols to provide needed data to answer product usage questions.
  • Providing technical link between Biology (R&D) and the market place. Become familiar with new BASF products prior to first marketing year. Participating and helping organize farm testing.


You will primarily be working in the Kern, Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera and Merced county area with interaction among colleagues in the remainder of California and Arizona. Our opportunities can take you all over the world…

Qualifications sought REQUIREMENTS:

  • BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent


  • MS/PhD degree in plant science, crop science, weed science, agronomy or related discipline
  • Crop production exposure
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proficient in Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent self-motivation skills


  • Minimum 3 years technical, sales and/or marketing experience
  • Demonstrated track record in agricultural or related industry
  • Crop production work experience
  • Knowledge of local crops (grapes, almonds, tomato, citrus, alfalfa, etc.)
  • Knowledge of markets, customers, and key 3rd party influencers of the agricultural chemical industry
