The Sr. Packaging & Applicator Engineer will join a dynamic R&D team responsible for the development, testing, qualification and commercialization of Packaging & Applicator devices for the industry-leader in consumer Lawn & Garden products. This candidate will be called upon to lead projects that drive new business opportunities or improve existing products and packaging. Project activities include: concept design and evaluation (feasibility, cost, ergonomics, consumer interaction, etc.), refinement and testing of new packaging, applicators and materials, data collection and analysis, project timeline development and management, development and maintenance of specifications. Materials of construction range from: flexible packaging (multi-web laminated pre-formed pouches), rigid packaging (extrusion blow mold, single and dual stage ISBM, injection molding, thermoform, etc.) and complex delivery systems integrated with custom packaging (battery powered spray wand with custom cl
osure). This particular role will focus on developing and commercializing liquid dispensing devices and associated packaging.

The Sr. Packaging Engineer will successfully collaborate with packaging suppliers, R&D, Marketing, Sales, and Supply Chain to insure business alignment during development and drive technical excellence throughout the product launch.

Key Work Performed :
* Works in multifunctional teams with Marketing, Supply Chain, R&D and suppliers to commercialize new and improve existing packaging.
* Prepares project timelines and tracks progress from concept through implementation.
* Develops and refines concepts for new products, packaging and processes.
* Develops budgetary quotes/cost estimates for new packaging programs.
* Creates package test plans protocols, monitors testing, and interprets data to insure package integrity throughout product lifecycle.
* Monitors and approves work of suppliers and/or contractors that are designing, developing, and prototyping packaging.
* Provides assistance to internal and external Operations during startup of new products or packages.
* Identifies novel packaging and applicator concepts to satisfy unmet customer/consumer needs. Performs feasibility testing to determine commercialization potential.
* Develops and refines new concepts into business proposals with detailed plans to commercialize.
* Identifies and implements process improvements to boost team efficiency.

Qualifications:
Education:
* B.S. Degree – Packaging Science, Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering

Experience:
* 5-10 years developing primary packaging solutions, preferably consumer packaged goods
* A strong track record of successful new packaging launches within a consumer goods company

Knowledge:
* Technical knowledge obtained from the successful completion of an undergraduate degree in Packaging or Mechanical Engineering.
* Ability to apply fundamental engineering principles for the evaluation and optimization of Scotts’ packaging.
* Thorough knowledge of commercially available rigid and/or flexible plastic container systems.
* Thorough knowledge of liquid dispensing devices.
* Working knowledge of the equipment and processes used to fill rigid or flexible packaging.

Skills and Abilities:
* Working knowledge of CAD design (e.g. Pro E, Autocad, Solidworks)
* Ability to use current PC-based software (e.g., Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Access, Project, etc.).
* Ability to conduct physical labor inside or outside, with or without an accommodation
* Ability to lift 40lbs, with or without an accommodation
