Description of duties Position Description:

The Department of Plant & Environmental Sciences, Clemson University, Clemson SC, seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work in plant stress physiology. The candidate will be working with Dr. Nishanth Tharayil, and will explore the role of phytochemicals in conferring stress resilience in weedy and ruderal plants.

Job Description:

  • Investigate the stress-induced perturbations in cellular metabolism, and the associated changes in the physiology, biochemistry, and carbon partitioning in plants using imaging, biochemical and metabolomic approaches.
  • Incorporate and advance the biological pathway and network analysis to visualize stress-induced molecular interactions.
  • Elucidate the dynamicity of metabolic networks using stable isotope-labeled flux analysis.
  • The postdoctoral researcher is expected to develop and execute hypothesis-driven research in the above topics, publish associated manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, present research at national meetings, contribute to research proposal submissions, maintain field plots, and guide graduate students in related research projects.
Qualifications sought
  • Candidates should have a Ph.D. in plant physiology, biochemistry, or related disciplines, and be highly motivated to lead cutting-edge research.
  • Candidates should have the ability to work independently and collaboratively, formulate creative, hypothesis-driven projects, and a strong record of publications.
  • Candidates with a background in the application of high-resolution mass spectrometry for metabolomics will be given preference.
  • The candidate should have a strong aptitude to learn analytical and molecular techniques as required by the projects.

  • The position is renewable for up to 2.5 years based on satisfactory annual progress
