Description of duties

POSITION PURPOSE

Bayer is seeking a highly-motivated Agronomic Research Manager with the ability to assume a key role within the North America Field Testing
Organization. The role will aid in testing and evaluation of new chemistry, pathology, entomology, seed treatment, and biotechnology trait solutions along
with agronomic system improvement concepts for our products. The position will travel to various North America Field Testing locations but will preferably
be based in Union City, TN. This is an outstanding opportunity to work with leading-edge technology and build relations and networks with highly-talented
cross-functional teams including, but not limited to, Breeding, Field Solutions, Plant Health, Biotechnology, Market Development, and Climate.

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Agronomic Research Manager, are to:
• Collaborate with project team members on early-phase agronomic research to deliver detailed experimental protocols that enable advancement
decisions by our scientists across Breeding, Biotechnology, and Field Solutions teams;
• Train and influence employees across the breeding network on standard operating procedures and data collection/trial execution;
• Coordinate and execute day-to-day priorities of the site either alone or as the leader of a small team responsible for the implementation of
outstanding and innovative technology solutions crafted to improve research and operations;
• Operate custom-research equipment, handle data with internal IT systems, align with regulated and/or stewarded seed stewardship standards,
complete and/or participate in safety inspections/training, and align with all Bayer policies and standard operating procedures;
• Maintain 100% error-free compliance and ensure team safety by serving as a Site Responsible Researcher to help maintain our freedom to operate;
• Supervise work of contractors at field locations and coach our counsel as needed;
• Engage in community relation and sustainability activities, serve as a technical representative on agronomic topics such as product pipeline
development, agronomy practices, and compliance standards;
• Create short- and long-term goals that align with personal strength and passion along with organization’s strategy and vision;
• Use in-house and external networks, tools, and resources to recognize and apply novel innovative tools for bringing efficiency and automation in small-plot research;
• Represent Bayer at commercial functions, university events, and professional society meetings;
• Collaborate with local team members and colleagues from commercial teams to coordinate and present at customer/grower/retailer/distributor field days;
• Travel up to 15%;
• Work extended hours during peak seasons (including extended day-time hours with the potential of limited overnight travel);
• Position entails driving a company vehicle (pooled or assigned to the individual). This may include being required to drive greater than 5,000 business miles annually in a personal, pooled, or rented vehicle OR being expected to frequently drive a pooled car as part of your job duties –
regardless of mileage.

Qualifications sought

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree with at least five years of relevant experience, or Master’s degree with at least two years of relevant experience or Ph.D.;
• Valid driver s license; Driving record (MVR) will be reviewed and must meet guidelines based on the company’s Risk Screening for Hiring Drivers;
• Have or have the ability to acquire a pesticide applicator license;
• Have or have the ability to acquire a UAV license for operating drones;
• Ability to work extended hours during peak operational seasons.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Preferred field of study in Weed Science and Agronomy or related fields;
• Prior experience in precision agriculture, agricultural automation and machine learning, data analytics.
