Description of duties A PhD Graduate Research Assistantship is available in the Department of Crop, Soil, and Environmental Sciences at Auburn University to study genomics, evolution, and diversity of Cyperus esculentus (yellow nutsedge) and Cyperus rotundus (purple nutsedge). The GRA will assist with genome assembly and annotation of the two species, collection and propagation of diverse genotypes, and aid in improved understanding species diversity. Individuals with interest in both computer science and plant production are sought. The GRA will be co-advised by Drs. Scott McElroy (Auburn University) and Alex Harkess (Auburn University, HudsonAlpha Institute for Biotechnology). The GRA will be housed in Auburn but will have the opportunity to interface with both Auburn University faculty and HudsonAlpha faculty. The assistantship is available immediately and is funded by the International Weed Genomics Consortium and Foundation for Food and Agricultural Research
Qualifications sought BS or MS in Crop Science, Horticulture, Plant Science with some experience in scientific computing
