Description of duties

We are looking for a Sourcing Manager who will join our Procurement team remotely!

In this role, you will be traveling extensively (up to 70%) within the South West Region (CO, UT, AZ, TX, MO & IA) to our various plant locations and suppliers.

Are you an industry expert in procuring raw materials such as dirt, soil, compost, bark, and mulch? Then you will fit in well as the Sourcing Manager here at Scotts! As the Sourcing Manager, you are responsible for developing a strategic raw material sourcing model to enable low-cost manufacturing throughout North America. You will build solid working relationships with our plant managers, regional directors, and other internal partners within operations, quality control, finance, logistics, and R&D. In addition, you will be connecting with local suppliers of products such as wood, bark/mulch, bark fines, compost, alternative raw materials, rice hulls, manure, and topsoils to ensure a strong and reliable supplier base.

What you’ll do in this role:
* Develop and execute disciplined sourcing strategies for the Scotts Miracle-Gro brands, specifically the North American soils and mulch businesses
* Conduct financial analysis for production and various modes of transportation for low-cost procurement, manufacturing, and distribution of product
* Create and execute comprehensive Procurement strategies for all category raw material and ensure best total value to Scotts Miracle-Gro by applying procurement expertise as a buyer of soil/mulch products
* Effectively manage internal relationships with our Scotts manufacturing facilities as well as cross-functional counterparts in R&D, Operations, Quality, Planning, Finance, and Logistics
* Actively manage supplier relationships to create and deliver maximum value as it pertains to long-term cost savings, improved utilization of assets, business building, and innovation
* Lead evaluation of supplier capabilities, cost structure, risks, and partnership potential to determine supply base and negotiate and execute contractual agreements
* Ensure compliance-related process and procedures are uncompromised
* Develop disruption mapping and mitigation strategies
* Be the Company expert on commodity market fundamentals
* Ensure suppliers are following Scotts Sustainability guidelines and implementing required actions
* Actively participate in the leadership of the Direct Procurement Team
* Analyze various modes of transportation and determine the most cost-effective and efficient model, standardizing across all plants as practical

What you’ll need to be successful:
* BS in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Accounting/Finance, Economics, Logistics, Business Administration
* Preferred: Supply Chain Certifications
* 5 – 10 years of progressive experience in Supply Chain Management or Raw Material Sourcing related role
* Experience in Wood, Bark and Compost and Growing Media Raw Materials sourcing
* Must have knowledge of Procurement and Sourcing strategies.
* Familiarity with Transportation and Logistical operations is a must
* Effective communication: Key procurement interface with Senior Management. Must be able to effectively communicate across all levels and functions within SMG and with external business partners
* Builds diverse, collaborative relationships: This role requires building effective relationships cross-functionally, and with internal and external partners. Must also be able to identify and develop new supplier relationships
* Disciplined: Must demonstrate ability to handle a large volume of responsibility in a fast-paced environment while setting and managing priorities. This role will entail responsibilities for both current business and new business
* Leadership: Must be a strong, passionate leader who is willing to set stretch goals. Able to create a vision and environment which will enroll, energize and enable cross-functional team to meet/exceed their goals. Must be able to set direction, integrate different needs of customers, set priorities, and influence actions of entire organization, including senior management
