Type of position This is a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position with 60% research, 25% extension (statewide rice weed specialist), and 15% teaching appointment focused on weed management programs in rice and fate of herbicides in the environment.

Description of duties The successful candidate must interact with commodity and agricultural industry partners to identify, develop, and implement critical research projects.  Collaboration with research and extension faculty within Louisiana, as well as with national experts on issues of shared interest and importance will be encouraged.  Formal participation in multi-disciplinary, regional, or national research initiatives will be expected.  Results of research should be published in peer-reviewed journals and other scientific/technical publications.  Extramural funding to support the activities of the position should be solicited from federal and state agencies, commodity (state and national) research boards, and agro-industries.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a research program focused on weed management programs in rice and herbicide fate in the environment at the LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station at Crowley, other LSU AgCenter research stations, and selected off-station sites.  Extension responsibilities will include the statewide extension rice weed management program.  The faculty member will be responsible for educating and training LSU AgCenter Parish Agents in rice weed management.  This position will work closely with agents to ensure they are well trained to address questions and solve problems in rice weed management.  This position will work closely with other rice researchers and extension faculty to maintain the LSU AgCenter Weed Guide, Rice Varieties and Management Tips publication, and publish weed management extension publications, both web-based and hard copy when appropriate.  Teaching responsibilities will include maintaining a graduate program within the School of Plant, Environmental, and Soil Sciences.  Specific courses to be taught will be based upon expertise.

Qualifications sought A Ph.D. in weed science or other closely related field of study is required.  Applications should have demonstrated effective oral, written, and electronic communication skills necessary for presentations to a variety of audiences.  Evidence of successful grantsmanship, research activity, stakeholder interaction, and teaching experience will be important considerations.  The ability to multi-task and work in a team environment with research, extension, and teaching faculty representing other disciplines is critical.
