Type of position The North Willamette Research & Extension Center (NWREC) at Oregons State University is seeking a Director. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.

NWREC is a large and dynamic agricultural research experiment station located in the Willamette Valley, featuring world-class field research in horticulture and crop sciences.

The Director serves at the pleasure of the Dean of the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS).

This position will provide overall leadership and guidance for research and Extension programs at the NWREC, including supervision of faculty and staff, budget and fiscal planning and management, and farm and facilities operations.

Specific roles and duties of this position include the following:

Serve as CAS’s primary liaison with local stakeholders providing high quality customer service with the local community.

As primary liaison, develop and oversee budget processes and monitor fiscal activities in collaboration the Executive Associate Dean and the Chief Operating Officer of CAS.

Build and maintain relationships with county, state and federal elected and appointed officials and decision makers-including keeping them informed about OSU’s activities and impacts in their communities.

County/Region Needs Assessments:

Manage broadly representative advisory councils to help identify critical issues, community needs and opportunities, while providing oversight and support for OSU programming within their purview.

Work as a team member with appropriate Regional Extension Directors to prioritize and implement needs assessment findings for NWREC.

Community Outreach and Engagement:

Connect public to OSU resources, improving the University’s reputation, presence and outreach in the community.

Facilitate educational services and opportunities, including credit and non­credit courses, within the community.

Develop and expand partnerships with educational leaders and providers in the community.

Description of duties
Administrative Leadership (80%) 
Personnel Management
Supervise all faculty and staff at NWREC including performance reviews, professional development, mentoring, managing leave and travel approvals, in addition to all other human resource-related functions. 
Assist tenure-track faculty with the tenure and promotion process in collaboration with their respective academic department leader. 
Oversee all hiring processes including position description development, budget evaluation, search processes, and management.
Fiscal and Budget Management
Develop and manage annual budgets including multi-year financial planning for NWREC.
Work closely with the seven counties in the NWREC service area, their County government Administrators and County Commissioners, and respective Extension Regional Directors to maintain and grow county funding support.
Function as delegated Budget Authority for NWREC. Facilities and Operations Management
Provide oversight and management of all facilities and day-to-day operations for NWREC including maintenance, repairs, improvements, emergency preparedness and closures.
Manage and implement safety and risk management plans for NWREC, including safety, first aid/medical, and emergency trainings.
Administrative Leadership
Participate as member of the larger OSU community including other responsibilities and requests, as possible.
Provide overall leadership as Director of the North Willamette Research and Extension Center including budget planning, managing faculty and staff, working with stakeholders, managing advisory council meetings, and monthly staff meetings.
Provide strategic leadership between farm management and faculty researchers to ensure functional and efficient operations. 
Participate as a member of the College of Agricultural Sciences leadership and Branch Experiment Station Directors teams.
Partnering and Fund Development (10%)
Lead strategic efforts to diversify funding support for existing programs and to build the capacity to address emerging needs.
Work with OSU Foundation, OSU Central offices, and OSU Extension Administration, Extension Program Leaders, OSU Open Campus and Strategic Initiatives leaders, as appropriate,  to develop and implement  alternative program funding.
Set expectations for implementing fee-based programming and cost-recovery practices as part of an NWREC business plan.
Develop new local, state and national partnerships.
Seek to document such relationships through memoranda.
Develop and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, partners and clientele.
Accountability and Service (10%)
Maintain active memberships and participate in appropriate professional organizations.
Develop annual plans of work, reports of accomplishments, and other reports as requested.
Communicate program successes through conference presentations to state and national audiences or other mechanisms as appropriate.
Develop, manage, and account for resources allocated to NWREC.
Serve on university, state, local and other local committees, as requests, and as time is available.
Qualifications sought

Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in a field relevant to agriculture and natural resource sciences 
·         Demonstrated experience leading research or extension teams.
·         National/international record of scholarly achievement in research, Extension, instructional and/or service activities within the crop or soil sciences or related disciplines, at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with tenure.
·         Excellence in verbal and written communication; demonstrated ability to communicate verbally with scientific colleagues, clientele and the public.
·         Five years of experience supervising and managing personnel.
·         Five years of experience with budget development and success in meeting budgetary goals.
·         Ability to work both independently and cooperatively within a team.  
·         A demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity. 
·         Ability to travel.
·         This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Criminal History Check and be determined to be position qualified as per OAR 576-055-0000 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in Youth Programs may have additional Criminal History Checks every 24 months.
·         This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030. 
Preferred Qualifications
·         National/international record of scholarly achievement in research, Extension, instructional and/or service activities commensurate with the rank of Full Professor with tenure.
·         Research experience with crops.
·         Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with stakeholders.
·         Demonstrated success in competing for extramural research funds.
.         Demonstrated success in managing physical infrastructure for research and extension purposes, including new capital projects.
