Description of duties

Position Summary:

The Department of Plant Sciences at North Dakota State University is seeking a postdoctoral research associate to investigate agronomic and environmental factors impacting potato yield and postharvest quality. This position will take a lead in investigating management of new and/or promising new potato varieties during all aspects of potato production (plant growth, tuber initiation, tuber bulking, harvest, and storage). This position will work among a team of multidisciplinary University and ARS scientists investigating the impact of agronomic, environmental, and post-harvest management factors impacting potato market quality and potato processing quality during storage. A successful candidate should be well trained in whole plant physiology, agronomy, soil nutrition or post-harvest biology. The candidate should: i) possess the ability to design and perform field and postharvest storage experiments; ii) keep appropriate experimental records and documentation; iii) summarize research finding to stakeholders through presentations and refereed journal publications. The appointment is for 24 months with extension possible depending on satisfactory performance and funding.

 

 

Qualifications sought

Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in agronomy, plant physiology, soil nutrition, biology, or related field.
  • Working experience in whole plant physiology or post-harvest biology.
  • Ability to initiate and accomplish research goals in a timely and efficient manner
  • Demonstrated ability to publish research results in peer-reviewed journals
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills and able to work with others in a multicultural environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior working experience in potato physiology or potato production.
  • A good record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
