Description of duties

Conduct weed science research leading to efficient and effective weed control in grain, oilseed, fiber, and vegetable crops for the farmers of Virginia through a better understanding of herbicide activity. Assisting faculty, staff, and stakeholders in their tasks.

Job duties

  1. Establishes and maintains studies by implementing treatments as needed, herbicide applications, and mechanical weed control.
  2. Collects injury, weed control, and yield data according to predetermined standards.
  3. Analyzes and format data for research reports, scientific papers, and presentations at scientific and grower meetings.
  4. Makes recommendations in the absence of faculty supervisor. Visits growers’ fields and conducts on-farm trials. Must obtain pesticide-applicator license within first three months.
Qualifications sought

BS in weed science, a closely related field, or experience demonstrating proficiency in weed science research tasks and production agriculture, experience in small plot design, herbicide applications, research and farm equipment, skills and experience in filing and organizing data, ability to interpret data, conducting field surveys for herbicide-resistance evaluations.


Preferred: Proficiency in ARM software for data analysis
