Graduate Research Assistantship in Weed Science with University of Idaho in Kimberly Research and Extension Center

Type of position The weed science program (www.uidaho.edu/weed-science) at the University of Idaho is seeking qualified applicants for a full-time M.S. graduate research assistantship in weed science beginning August 2022. This assistantship will be in the Plant Sciences Department, and the primary work location will be at the University of Idaho Kimberly Research and Extension Center. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to evaluate cereal cover crops and herbicides for weed control in dry bean under different herbicide resistance scenarios. The assistantship includes a tuition waiver and an annual stipend.

Description of duties

The successful candidate will enroll in the M.S. Plant Science program within the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Idaho. Under the mentorship of Dr. Albert Adjesiwor, the successful candidate will design and carry out field-based research on integrating cereal cover crops and herbicide programs for weed control in dry bean. The successful candidate will be responsible for initiating and completing the M.S. research project, aiding other research and extension projects associated with the program, presenting research results, and attending extension, industry, and scientific meetings. The candidate will be expected to prepare at least one manuscript for submission to a reputable peer-reviewed journal.

Qualifications sought

Applicants must have a B.S. degree in plant science, agronomy, soil science, crop science, biology, weed science, or closely related fields. Experience in weed science, field-based research, and data analysis are preferred. Effective oral and written communication skills are essential. Applicants should be detail-oriented and capable of working independently and in a team environment. The candidate will need a valid driver’s license.
