Matt Spoth of Cornell University placed first among undergraduates for individual performance.

The Virginia Tech team taking top honors at the graduate level included (left to right) Wykle Greene, Eric Scruggs, John Brewer and Shawn Beam. Scruggs also placed first among graduate students for his individual performance.

For the written portion of the contest, students were given 45 minutes to carry out calculations related to various aspects of sprayer calibration, including determining correct spray volumes, amount of product required for herbicide applications and proper nozzle selection.

Spencer Samuelson, a graduate student at Texas A&M University, tests his knowledge of herbicides. In this portion of the contest, students must identify which of more than 30 potential herbicides has been applied to plots based on crop injury and the spectrum of weed control.
