Description of duties

 https://psu.edu/” target=”_blank”>The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a candidate for a Research Technologist to conduct field and greenhouse research on the biology, ecology, and management of weeds of agricultural systems. The successful candidate will be assigned to the Applied Weed Physiology Laboratory. The successful candidate will be responsible for the following: 

  • Design, establish, and maintain field and greenhouse experiments, collect and analyze data 

  • Summarize data and write reports, present data at conferences and growers meetings

  • Coordinate with collaborators and sponsors on securing field sites and purchasing pesticides and other supplies

  • Conduct research under general direction of faculty and assist graduate student with data collection

  • Coordinate operational activities in various experiments and upkeeping of the research program

  • Maintain inventory and training records of all lab members

  • Train other lab members on procedures and protocols, instrumentation, and safety

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of projects led by postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students

  • May assemble, test calibrate, clean or make minor repairs to equipment 

  • May supervise lower-level staff, wage employees and/or students

 

This is a limited term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Qualifications sought

Education and Experience:

This position will be filled as a level 2 and typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. In addition, the successful candidate must hold, or be able to obtain, the PA Public Applicator Core and Category 18 Demonstration and Research pesticide applicator licenses, within six months of hire.
