The Research Associate will lead independent field and greenhouse evaluations of herbicides, crops, novel traits, harvest weed seed control, and resistance traits in weeds. The RA will also be expected to assist with other projects as needed within the group. The RA will be expected to work with the weed science PI’s and lab managers to develop protocols, and to work with independence in completing required tasks. The RA will be required to operate equipment including tractors, sprayers, and mowers. The RA will be responsible for data analysis, interpretation, and preparing reports from field and greenhouse trials. The RA will be expected to provide leadership in writing funding proposals. The RA will be expected to submit results for publications in scientific journals, and provide mentorship to junior trainees in the weed science program. The RA will lead collaborations with multi-state weed research projects. The RA will present results at national scientific meetings.

Qualifications sought

Required:

  • RAII plus 5 yrs. Experience or Master’s degree plus 2 years experience or Ph.D. Degree completed by start date. Degree/educational emphasis in weed science, agronomy, or related field.
  • Knowledge of and experience with herbicide application and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of and experience with greenhouse dose response studies for herbicides.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze data and publish in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred:

  • Effective verbal and written presentation skills
  • Experience with record keeping and lab books
  • Knowledge of and experience with radiolabeled herbicides.
  • Experience with weed control in field crops such as wheat, corn, sugar beets, and canola
  • Knowledge of harvest weed seed control systems
  • Experience in establishing, managing, and maintaining field research plots
