Description of duties

The individual will be responsible for organizing and overseeing Dr. Jason Norsworthy’s field, greenhouse, and laboratory research in weed science. This person will manage approximately 100 field trials annually, analyze and interpret data, and write annual reports and summaries. It is expected that this person will contribute to the publication of peer-reviewed manuscripts, some of which as the first author. The individual will assist with development of research plans, protocols, and organization of a large research group consisting of 2 to 3 post-docs, 10 to 15 graduate students, 5 to 6 hourly workers, another program associate, and a program technician. During the spring and summer months, a significant amount of time may be spent traveling to research sites located at various Agricultural Experiment stations and on-farm locations in eastern Arkansas. Coordination and organization of these trips will be largely the responsibility of this individual. In the late fall and winter months, time will be spent in the greenhouse evaluating new herbicides, screening weed populations for herbicide resistance, and conducting laboratory research that will likely involve use of specialized instruments for detecting herbicides in soil or water and elucidating herbicide resistance mechanisms in weeds. This individual will be responsible for purchasing the necessary supplies, equipment, and instruments needed to complete all research successfully. Detailed records will be kept of all research activities. Research findings will be presented annually at regional and national meetings.
