Description of duties |
The graduate assistant will work as part of a large group conducting weed management research in cotton, corn, soybean, grain sorghum, and rice with routine interaction with industry representatives from chemical manufacturers and other weed management technology suppliers. Specific projects will likely involve characterizing new herbicides for Arkansas crops or contributing to an increased understanding of resistance mechanisms and herbicide resistance evolution in Palmer amaranth, barnyardgrass, or other weeds important to Arkansas producers. The research will have field, greenhouse, and laboratory components. The successful candidate will teach the laboratory portion of a senior-level weed control class during two semesters. Annual reports summarizing research findings and publication of results in peer-reviewed journals are expected. The successful candidate will attend regional and national meetings, which may include the Beltwide Cotton Conference, Southern Weed Science Society, Weed Science Society of America, and Rice Technical Working Group, among others. The student will be expected to provide assistance and leadership for M.S. students within the program. There will be routine travel to research facilities more than 3 hours from campus during the summer months. |
Qualifications sought |
The selected candidate must hold an MS in weed science, agronomy, entomology, plant physiology, or a related field. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate leadership skills or capabilities. |
