USDA-ARS Postdoctoral Research Associate (GS-11)

Description of Duties

The USDA, Agricultural Research Service, Foreign Disease-Weed Science Research Unit located at Fort Detrick in Frederick, Maryland, is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate for a 2-year appointment. The participant will enter with a GS-11, Step 1 salary ($82,764.00) plus benefits. The primary research objective for the incumbent will be to develop and optimize a genetic transformation protocol for the invasive weed common tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) using Agrobacterium and/or biolistic transformation approaches. Secondary objectives involve bioinformatics and targeted gene knockouts.
A recent Ph.D. (within the last 4 years) in molecular biology, plant science, or related discipline is required. This opportunity is available only to U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents. Knowledge of plant transformation protocols, bioinformatics, genetic transformation/selection, and general molecular biology techniques are desirable.
