PhD position in AI tools for precision weed management
Description of Duties
Graduate student fellowships are available at Penn State University for doctoral work on the AI enhanced specialty crop production systems. The successful candidates will enter in Fall 2025 as a cohort (an interdisciplinary group) under the College of Agricultural Sciences (CAS) Strategic New Initiatives Program (SNIP) and receive transdisciplinary training and cross-departmental mentorship to advance research and enhance impact. Cohort students (5 PhD students) will receive and help shape cohort building activities including training in developing skills for transdisciplinary research, AI and precision agriculture related workshops with hands-on experience, mentoring of undergraduate students, industry fellowships, grantsmanship and science communication, and various opportunities on professional development.
Candidates must apply and be admitted to one of the graduate programs below. To be considered for a SPRINT cohort fellowship, candidates are strongly encouraged to apply before January 31, 2025. Contact the faculty member listed below in your discipline of interest with (1) a cover letter indicating your background experiences and research interests, (2) resume, (3) (unofficial) transcripts, and (4) a research paper/report of your authorship. MSc in weed science, vegetable science, horticulture, engineering, or related field is required.
