Postdoctoral Research Associate

Description of Duties

This postdoctoral position in the Weed Science lab at Washington State University-Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (WSU-IAREC) is focused on developing integrated weed management solutions for various specialty crops in Washington. The incumbent will be expected to conduct lab, greenhouse, and field experiments to study problematic weed species’ biology, ecology, and management. The incumbent is also expected to interact with growers, stakeholders, and other industry groups, attend and present their research at meetings and conferences, assist Principal Investigator (PI) with grant writing, and publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals. They are expected to actively collaborate with and assist other team members in a professional and courteous manner to advance research goals.

Required Qualifications:The qualified candidate should have received a doctoral degree in Weed Science or related Agricultural fields /disciplines before the starting date.Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards. Have a valid Washington State Pesticide Applicator’s license or ability to obtain one within 3 months of being hired.Preferred Qualifications: Research experience in Applied Weed ScienceKnowledge of field experimental designData analysis using statistical softwareExperience in writing grants, journal articles, presenting findings at conferences and other meetingsExcellent communication skills Ability to work independently and in a team environmentKnowledge or experience in working in horticultural crops is a plus
