Weyerhaeuser is searching for a Progeny Test Coordinator to join our Tree Improvement team in Ruston, LA. As a Progeny Test Coordinator, your primary responsibility involves coordinating the establishment and management of all genetic field tests in your assigned area of responsibility. This position is part of Weyerhaeuser’s Strategy & Technology (S&T) business and reports to the Southern Tree Improvement Manager.
Additionally, you may work with key scientists and project leaders across all S&T disciplines. Strong communication and coordination are required with scientists and the entire team to ensure seedlings are grown to spec, field test sites are properly selected, sites prepared, established, maintained, measured, and documented. You will be able to conduct research on various aspects of silviculture, tree genetics, tree physiology, plant pathology and plant health. Your success in this role will include having a strong understanding of tree improvement and southern pine silviculture, and possessing the ability to recognize opportunities for research and operational improvement.
This is an individual contributor role responsible for transferring technological information in a clear and concise manner to managers (S&T and Southern Regeneration), early- and mid-rotation foresters, and other relevant parties. This transfer of information may be in the form of group presentations, field tours, and written reports. In addition to formal research activities, you will be expected to stay abreast of current science, to understand operational practices, and to recognize research needs and challenges as they arise.
