This position is located on the Troth Yeddha’ campus in Fairbanks Alaska. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt faculty position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. Ph.D. in Crop/Plant/Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field; a track record of demonstrated research excellence; the ability to develop research collaborations with private and public sector organizations. Or a combination of a Masters of Science in Crop/Plant/Weed Science, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field, combined with successful acquisition of grants to perform research in this field.Three years professional experience related to this position with experience publishing in peer reviewed journals.

The University of Alaska Fairbanks is a top research university in the circumboreal north, and is on the leading edge of addressing agricultural production in a changing northern climate. This position is located in Fairbanks with the Institute of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Extension, and has access to three research farms in Fairbanks, Delta-Junction, and Palmer Alaska. Programs in the institute have a long history of working on small grain production including nutrient management, tillage systems, plant breeding with modern techniques, incorporating cover crops, and weed management for weed free certification. The project will directly benefit the production of certified weed free straw that is used in the iconic Iditarod sled dog race, and in production of erosion control materials. The institute has offices in key areas of agricultural production providing this position with an easy way to collaborate with industry stakeholders, and identify research priorities that have direct impact on production. In addition to agronomic researchers, the position will work with a well established integrated pest management team of faculty and staff that work on weed and pest management issues in crop production and wildlands including topics such as herbicide fate, development of insect IPM tactics, and tracking the occurrence of insect pest and weeds in Alaska. The Institute provides a great opportunity to work with a dynamic group of professionals and stakeholders to address existing weed management issues. The University of Alaska Fairbanks offers an exciting venue to study agriculture, horticulture, the evolution of weeds, and challenges of weed management in a changing climate. Come work with a well established foundational crew of agronomists, integrated pest management researchers and practitioners working on cover cropping systems, pesticide persistence, management of weeds in production agriculture, and wildland weed issues relevant to northern latitudes. A successful applicant has excellent communication and collaboration skills, particularly in listening and interpreting the weed management needs of small grain producers. You will communicate research findings to technical and general audiences with a focus on how to practically apply findings in field production. You must have the technical skills to address emerging issues such as herbicide tolerance and resistance with the most up to date methods.
