2025 Summer Research Intern
Description of Duties
A summer internship consisting of 30-40 hours per week, paid bi-weekly will constitute the following tasks:
Research Field Trial Mapping, Establishment, and Maintenance
Research Equipment Calibration and Utilization
Pesticide Mixing, Labeling, Application and Shipping
Insect and Weed Identification
Research Trial Rating, Data Collection, and Statistical Processing
Drone Operation and Data Collection
Basic custodial and maintenace tasks
Accomplishments anticipated at the conclusion of the summer include:
Take and Pass FAA Part 107 Exam
Take and Pass Mississippi Pesticide Applicator Exam
Improved knowledge of Mississippi crop pest physiology and biology
Improved knowledge of Mississippi cropping systems
Improved knowledge of pesticide application technology and safety
Basic understanding of agricultural statistics and their use
Qualified applicants will have a passion for agricultural science. The ideal candidate would be a mature high school or college student currently pursuing a degree in weed science, plant pathology, entomology, agriculture engineering, agronomy or related field. Preference may be given to applicants with basic farming/agronomy/equipment operation experience.The successful applicant will be expected to work outdoors for extended periods in potentially hot weather.
