Description of Duties

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate must be able to teach at the diploma, undergraduate, and graduate degree levels in the area of agronomy and cropping systems for both conventional and organic crop production systems. Training of HQP including graduate students, post-docs, research associates, and research technicians is required. The position requires the development and maintenance of a strong externally funded research program that addresses the current challenges faced in crop production in Western Canada. The candidate is expected to work collaboratively with faculty members and with scientists, and interdisciplinary research teams at the University of Manitoba and other national or international research institutions. The candidate is expected to contribute to committees at all levels within the University of Manitoba. Interaction with producers, industry partners, extension specialists, provincial and federal government representatives and regulators is expected.

The candidate will lead a research program conducting both applied and basic research in the area of agroecology and cropping systems. The position start date is July 1, 2025, or as soon as possible thereafter. Qualifications:The successful candidate must have a B.Sc. in Agriculture or equivalent and a Ph.D. in agronomy, cropping systems, crop ecology, organic production systems, or natural systems agriculture. Post doctoral experience in one of the areas mentioned above would be an asset. Preference will be given to candidates with research and teaching experience in natural systems agriculture. The candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, successful training of graduate students, a strong research and publication record, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, an ability to attract external research funds, and evidence of research collaboration. A proven track record conducting field research experiments and experience with experimental design and statistical analysis is preferable.
