Description of duties |
Perform leading research addressing managing the emerging threat of herbicide-resistant weeds that threaten sugarbeet production in the U.S. This may include the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and/or machine learning to collect and integrate agronomic and environmental data towards specific objectives including the investigation of advanced technologies for weed identification and targeted applications on ground-based and/or aerial platforms that integrate multiple management tactics (e.g., spray, clip, electrocute) in a precision integrated weed management approach. The incumbent will develop collaborations with researchers in the fields of engineering and computer science as necessary to facilitate project goals. Ultimately, the research will apply a systems approach by integrating engineering and information technologies with biological sciences and utilize the latest technology in sensors, autonomous vehicles, robotics automation, AI, and data analytics to attain research objectives and provide sugarbeet growers with a comprehensive and effective weed management toolkit. |
