PhD openings in digital agronomy/weed science

Description of Duties

PhD graduate research assistantships are available at the Weed Science Research Laboratory, Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas in the area of remote sensing/GIS, AI/ML, and robotic applications. The student will participate in the development of data pipelines and image analysis for a national weed, cover crop, and cash crop image repository currently in development, and also develop novel methods for plant biomass estimation. Research questions also include field diagnostics of agronomic issues and site-specific management. The successful applicant will join an interdisciplinary team of researchers and have opportunities to collaborate with GROW (Getting Rid Of Weeds; https://growiwm.org) and PSA (Precision Sustainable Agriculture; http://precisionsustainableag.org) networks. The start time is flexible, anywhere from Spring to Fall 2024.
The preferred candidates must hold or be currently working towards an MS degree in a relevant field. Candidates without an MS, but with significant experience past BS may also be considered. Knowledge of computer programming (at least past beginner), familiarity with image analysis softwares, a strong interest in precision agriculture, an ability to learn concepts quickly, and the ability to work as part of an inter-disciplinary team are a must.
