Description of Duties
The successful candidate will conduct herbicide resistance surveys, assist with greenhouse and field-based weed science research, preparing weed science project reports, and assist in mentoring interns/ temporary research associates in the research program.
Herbicide resistance surveys and screening for herbicide resistance (50%)
o Drive across southern Idaho to collect weed tissue samples
o Plant and spray weeds in the greenhouse
o Evaluate and collect data from greenhouse bioassays
Assist with greenhouse and field-based weed science research (20%)
o Assist with planting, mapping, spraying, and evaluating field trials
o Assist with planting, spraying and evaluating greenhouse trials
Preparing weed science project reports (20%)
o Assist with data entry and summary
o Drafting weed science trial reports
Assist in mentoring interns/ temporary research associates in the research program (10%).
o Assign duties and help supervise interns/ temporary research associates
o Train interns/ temporary research associates
Bachelor’s Degree in weed science, crop science, agronomy, plant science, or range managementFollowing pre-established procedures or protocolsCollecting and reviewing scientific dataKeeping complete and accurate recordsWorking in a team environmentAbility to travelPossess a valid driver’s license and be able to meet policy requirements for driving university-owned vehiclesPosses an Idaho Pesticide Applicator’s License or able to obtain one within 6 months of hire

The University of Idaho Kimberly Research & Extension Center (KREC) encompasses 180 acres of irrigated land, five greenhouses, laboratories, a seed processing and storage facility, and a potato storage research complex. KREC provides research and extension programs that support agriculture for the eight counties of the Magic Valley. Research teams investigate disease management techniques, potato storage practices, plant-insect interactions and biological control, and weed management practices.
