Description of Duties
The Weed Ecology Technician at Clemson University will support research focused on weed ecology and crop management by assisting in both field and laboratory experiments. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining field trials, performing soil preparation, planting, herbicide applications, and sample collection. The technician will also handle sample processing and basic lab analyses, such as germination tests and biomass measurements. Additional duties involve data collection and organization using digital tools, equipment maintenance, and occasional travel to field sites for multi-location trials. This role provides hands-on experience in diverse agricultural environments and offers opportunities to collaborate with research partners and growers.
The qualified candidate for the Weed Ecology Technician position at Clemson University should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with experience in a clinical or research setting preferred. Essential skills include the ability to perform physical tasks, such as lifting up to 50 pounds and working outdoors in varying weather conditions. Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets) are required. A Bachelor’s degree in fields such as Agriculture, Biology, Environmental Science, or Weed Science, along with a driver’s license and willingness to obtain a Plant Pesticide Applicator certification, are preferred. Ideal candidates will have experience conducting fieldwork in agricultural or environmental research and familiarity with laboratory protocols, including sample processing and equipment handling.
