Research Associate in Weed Science/Systems Agronomy
Description of Duties
– Perform independent or supervisory roles in Weed Science activities requiring an advanced level of knowledge in agronomy, soil science, horticulture or closely related field that require a consistent use of discretion and judgment.
– Coordinate multistate research projects, conduct periodic meetings, and follow-up with team members as necessary. This person will plan and oversee various project activities to ensure that the goals are met in a timely fashion.
– Plan and acquire resources and supplies for various research projects ongoing in the program. Ensure effective use of resources.
– Track, monitor, and manage program budget and funding accounts; verify and submit receipts for payment and reimbursement
– Manage logistics and travel for program members to attend conferences and research site visits; meetings, seminars, and other event planning, including visits of prospective lab members and guest scientists.
– Assist in the preparation of grant proposals and supporting documents for various funding agencies.
– Supervise graduate students, student workers, interns, and other lab, technical, or field personnel involved in research.
– Prepare project reports, data entry, organization, summarization, and writing
– Prepare various paperwork necessary for hiring lab personnel, handle email/phone communications delegated by the PI.
– Operate, troubleshoot, and maintain various lab, greenhouse, and field research equipment.
– Provide day-to-day administrative and logistical support as required by the program.
– Other duties as assigned by the program
Educational qualification:
-MS in Agriculture, Agronomy, Weed Science, Plant Science, Biology, or a closely related discipline is preferred. Candidates holding a BS and years of experience in the relevant areas may also be considered.
Other qualifications:
-Familiarity with agriculture or biological science research and methodology in various settings.
-Experience with research project management, administrative assistance, data summarization, and report preparation.
-Ability to effectively utilize a computer and applicable software to perform computer-related tasks.
-Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others and make decisions using independent judgment and discretion.
-Effective communication and organization skills.
-A valid US driver license or an ability to obtain one within two months of starting the position.
