Graduate Research Assistantship (MS/PhD) – Ag Robotics/ Precision Ag
Description of Duties
Student will conduct research in the area of precision agriculture/digital agronomy. Research focus will be on the development and application of advanced technologies (e.g. Unmanned Aerial Vehicles/ sensor-based ground vehicles/ field robots), analytics and tools for field-level decision-making, precise application of inputs that match crop and weed-control needs, and/or optimized, real-time agronomic management. Research will involve greenhouse, and field experiments. Student will have the opportunity to work with the collaborators at the University of Delaware, United States Department of Agriculture, and many other engineering faculties working under Smart Farming initiative of Virginia Tech.
BS/ MS in engineering field. The candidate must have some training in agricultural sciences and strong interest to work in multi-disciplinary teams. Candidates with knowledge of programming, image analysis/ modeling will be preferred.
Selected student will complete courses at Blacksburg campus and research will be at multi-locations (VT Blacksburg, and Eastern shore AREC).
