Description of Duties
The Weed Science Research Associate will provide support for the weed science program in conducting research on herbicide resistance screening and weed management practices for row crop and forage production systems in southern Idaho. Research will be conducted primarily in alfalfa, corn, dry beans, small grains, and sugar beet.
Prepare and maintain field research sites for weed science experiments.
Plant crops and ensure proper establishment for research trials.
Apply herbicide treatments using both hand-held and tractor-mounted sprayers.
Evaluate weed control effectiveness and crop safety through field observations and data collection.
Harvest crop seed and process (clean) it for yield and quality assessment.
Collect, clean, and prepare weed seed for use in experimental studies.
Operate farm machinery including tractors, planters, combines, and sprayers.
Perform maintenance and calibration of tractor-mounted and hand-held research sprayers to ensure accurate application.
Use computers and hand-held data collectors for data collection, entry, and analysis.
Assist with general field and equipment maintenance as needed to support research operations.
Bachelor’s Degree in weed science, crop science, agronomy, plant science, or range management
Two years of post-bachelor’s research experience related to the domain of this position
Valid driver’s license and ability to meet requirements for driving university vehicles
Hold or be able to obtain an Idaho Pesticide Applicator’s License within 6 months of hire
