Description of duties The University of Wyoming Extension – Pesticide Safety Education Program is responsible for: annual grant negotiation, administration, and report writing; creation and delivery of programming for new commercial applicators; development of program content (on-line and in-person) for existing commercial applicators; development and oversee delivery (via UW Extension) of educational program for private applicators; training manual updates; creation and maintenance of the integrity of training manual exam questions; management of issues with exam testing computers and testing software; website maintenance https://uwyoextension.org/psep/” target=”_blank”>https://uwyoextension.org/psep/  ; negotiating contracts with Wyoming Community Colleges as educational program outlets; work lock-step with the Wyoming Department of Agriculture to ensure program consistency and integrity; partner with state agencies to direct actions concerning the EPA’s Pesticides of Concern list; partner with PSEP coordinators from other states to develop regional/national program content; member of the American Association of Pesticide Safety Educators (AAPSE) who address issues concerning pesticide safety education nationally.
Qualifications sought COMPETENCIES: 

  • Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision. Must be self-motivated; have the ability to work independently and are goal oriented.
  • Excellence in ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Demonstrated teamwork, creativity, and flexibility.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • An earned master’s degree from an accredited college or university. One degree must have been awarded in entomology, weed science, plant pathology, natural resources, or range management.
  • Demonstrated capacity and experience in conducting applied research projects and associated data analyses: including the establishment and management of demonstration plots, data collection, analysis, report writing and the ability to convert collected data into educational content.
  • Valid driver’s license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with the https://www.uwyo.edu/risk/_files/docs/offical-vehicle-policy.pdf” target=”_blank”>University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Experience in audience needs identification and program results evaluation.
  • Experience in working with diverse audiences – especially in a collaborative framework.
  • Experience in developing partnerships with other organizations/agencies and fostering positive relationships with community stakeholders.
  • Experience with obtaining and administering private and public grant funding.
  • A commitment to travel and work in remote areas and rural counties in Wyoming.
  • Knowledge of Extension and the land-grant university system.
  • Knowledge of and appreciation for rural and agricultural communities.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with land managers and professionals from various agencies to foster open, honest, and candid communication.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office suite of products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willing to learn others.
